Great Photographer Assignment

I chose Sharon Core, a contemporary artist who uses photography to meticulously replicate other artist's paintings.  Here she has reproduced "Cakes", a Wayne Thiebaud painting from 1963.

I was inspired by the same color, pattern, repetition, and sumptuous materials that drew her to Thiebaud, and used Core's other imagery of sandwiches, salads, fruits, and soups to inform my work.  Because many of these images deal with sweets, I interpret Core's reproductions as addressing current issues of excess and waste, so I chose fruit as a colorful and healthy spin on the original works.

Amanda,
These photos are stunning. You perfectly picked up her style and really made it your own. The repetition of color and shape makes this photo so beautiful and interesting. My favorite part though is that shadow that you create on the white surface. Especially in the second photo, it is so dramatic, that it really makes the photo exceptional. The colors, of course, too are so vibrant and really pick up the vibes from your photographer. Really, really well done!

These photos lighting are awesome. The white background makes the colors pop. The shadows are great. Its actually hard to tell if the fruit is real or fake, also with the cakes. It almost looks to perfect to be real. This could definitely be in a food magazine.

The colors and placement is perfect. Definitely placing them on pure white really helped emulate the photograph. The photos are really interesting and yummy.

You have perfect light in your pictures, it's great! And I like that you you then mixed up the different fruits on each other in different variations. It really helps the colors pop being right next to each other.

I love the shadows of each item. I'm learning to appreciate photography from your posts.

I like how you "over-exposed" the shots to minimize shadows and maximize color. You did a nice job capturing the flatness and repetition of Sharon Core's work.
